Motorbike Ride in Tibet

You can also ride your own motorbike in Tibet. However, before that there are a few documents, you need to complete. We will help you with that. Once you provide all the necessary papers for your motorbike, we will issue a motorbike permit for you. 

The Best Time To Go for Tibet EBC Motorbike Tour 

You can go on Everest Base Camp Motorbike Tour throughout the year. Still, spring and autumn are the most favorable time of the year to go on this tour in Tibet. the climate is pleasant and the views are also excellent. Winter (December to February) is not recommended to go on the tour, as cold weather makes the journey tough.

Tibet Visa & Travel Permit Information

You have to stay in Nepal for at least three days to get the Tibetan visa. Your original passport, a single copy of the photo, and a completed embassy form with your details are needed to apply for the visa. The embassy form, we will provide you. Likewise, you have to send us to scan a copy of your passport, license, and motorbike blue book (if you are renting from us, then we will give this) at least a month ago for Tibet Travel Permit, self-ride permit, and other formalities. 

Tibet Motorbike Permits

Riding to Everest Base Camp from Tibet requires special permits that we will arrange for you. If you are traveling with us, we will take care of all formalities, permits, and documents. You have to get Tibet Travel Permit, Tibet Visa, Motorbike Permit, Self-Riding Permit, and Immigration Deposit to go on the Everest Base Camp Motorbike trip. In case, you have Chinese Visa, then it gets canceled while taking Tibet Visa in the Chinese Embassy, Kathmandu, Nepal. We will provide you professional government license holder as a tour guide. He will take care of everything in all the check-points.

Important Notice to get a Tibet Visa in Kathmandu: Traveling to Tibet requires a China Tibet Group Visa. The Tibet visa is obtained through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu and takes approximately 3 official working days. We advise you to arrive at least 3 days before the tour date for smooth visa processing. Meanwhile, the Tibet Tourism Bureau issues the Tibet Travel Permit, which takes around 15 working days to process. You need to send the Passport copy and necessary documents at least 25 days before the tour date.

3. What is the best time to do the Everest Base Camp Motorbike Tour?

The best time to ride to Everest Base Camp is during April to mid-June and September to October. These months offer clear skies, stable weather, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Avoid the rainy season (July–August) and harsh winter months (November–March).

4. Do I need a motorcycle driving license to join the tour?

Yes, you must have a valid international motorcycle license. Additionally, a temporary Chinese driving license will be arranged by Dream Tibet Travel during your visa processing period in Kathmandu. It is mandatory for riding legally in Tibet.

5. What kind of motorcycles are provided for the tour?

Dream Tibet Travel typically provides Royal Enfield Himalayan 411cc  or Royal Enfield Classic 499cc motorcycles or equivalent bikes that are well-suited for high-altitude and off-road riding. Bikes are checked and maintained to ensure safety during the Tibet journey.

6. Is it possible to bring my own motorbike?

Yes, it is possible, but you will need to meet specific Chinese customs requirements. Special permits and temporary Chinese registration and plates must be arranged in advance, which can be time-consuming and costly. Most travelers prefer renting the provided motorcycles in Kathmandu.

7. How high is the Everest Base Camp in Tibet?

The Rongbuk North Face of Everest Base Camp is located at an altitude of 5,150 meters (16,900 feet). It is one of the highest points accessible by motorcycle. You can ride up to Tashidzong Village then we take a eco-friendly vehicle up to Rongbuk.

8. How do we acclimatize during the tour?

The itinerary is carefully designed to allow gradual acclimatization, with multiple overnight stops at increasing altitudes such as Syaprubesi, Kyirung, Tingri, Rest days and easy riding days are also included to help adjust to the elevation.

12. Is there a backup vehicle?

Yes, a support vehicle follows the group. It carries your luggage, Motorcycle’s spare parts, and can assist if any mechanical issues or emergencies.

13. What if I cannot continue riding during the tour?

If you face any difficulty in riding (due to health, altitude, or mechanical issues), you can travel in the support vehicle without any extra cost. Your motorcycle will be loaded onto the backup truck.

14. Do I need travel insurance for this trip?

Yes, comprehensive travel and medical insurance is mandatory. The insurance should cover motorcycle riding activities and emergency evacuation from high altitudes.

15. What are the risks of altitude sickness on this tour?

Since most of the tour is above 3,500 meters, there is a risk of Altitude Mountain Sickness. Proper acclimatization, drinking plenty of water, eating light meals, and riding at a slow-paced help reduce the risk. Our guides are trained to recognize symptoms of high altitude sickness and assist if necessary.

19. Can pillion riders (non-riders) join the tour?
